Rock M. Sakura is here! She competed on Season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and she tells us all about the inspiration behind their costumes and performances. We ask Rock M if they think there really is a “San Francisco curse” on Drag Race. After being sent home second they are still serving encouragement and advice for any queen from San Francisco who wants to compete on Drag Race. Then they tell us why it was important for them to acknowledge their own history of sex work, following a series of attacks on Asian American sex workers.

Our very special guest this week is Varla Jean Merman, a renown drag performer, a comedienne, and singer who has filled cabarets and concert halls across the world… including the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall! She’s appeared on Ugly Betty, Project Runway, All My Children and the feature length independent films Girls Will Be Girls (2003) and Varla Jean and the Mushroomheads (2011)— but today she is all ours! We talk to Varla Jean Merman about her experiences performing drag from the early 1990’s until now, including her unique incorporation of video projections in her shows as well as her legendary use of props of tremendous scale over the years. Now synonymous with drag in Provincetown, we talk to Varla about doing shows today and what it is going to be like as things are beginning to open up in nightlife. She tells us all about living the sweet life of love!

You may know him as the creator and casting daddy of the East Village’s The Cock bar, or for running all the best boy parties in New York and LA. He brought back the back room, he’s bringing back sleaze, and brought us the sweetness!

Comedy in the age of cancel culture is something that we discuss a lot on Drag Time with Heklina and we get a real sweetheart’s take on political correctness in comedy. She tells us about meeting Michael Jackson while working on the dance number for her Madonna spoof entitled “Vague,” and then we reminiscence about her work on the set of Clueless (she was the lesbian gym teacher.) He tells us all about coming to New York from Atlanta in the mid-1980’s, where he met and collaborated with a pre-VH1/Supermodel RuPaul. First, Flloyd regales us with an historic tour of his memories from inside the club and party scenes of NYC, including a particular account of “the most glamorous party of all time” captured in the Nelson Sullivan tapes. We talk about Leigh Bowery, Anohni, Hattie Hathaway, Marti Domination, and Black Lips, the Butthole Surfers, and Larry Tee’s Now Explosion. We talk to Swan and Drac about the good old days at Queen Kong in Los Angeles, how much fun it is to make a transgressive and queer reality (hit!) television Dragula now streaming on Netflix. We find out the Brothers' favorite memories about Heklina and hear a heartfelt message from Swan and Drac about keeping the conversation going during difficult times.
