S2. Ep. 15 This is Calpernia Addams!
We get into the weeds with Calpernia Addams about how language can change, casual activism, and reflect on fighting and surviving the queer liberation. Calpernia shares some of her experiences growing up in a strict fundamentalist Christian cult and her journey coming to adulthood serving in the military as a combat medic in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War. Then she tells us all about how Navy lesbians contributed to her post-service glow up!
Calpernia gives us an insider perspective on Hollywood casting of transgender, gay, and lesbian roles and she tell us about the work of her production company Deep Stealth Productions with Andrea James. We ask her about the film Soldier’s Girl (2003) which portrayed the 1999 hate crime murder of her real life boyfriend PFC Barry Winchell at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, USA.
S2. Ep. 14 FILM FETISH ft. Bruce LaBruce
This episode has it all: sex, murder, splatter, gore… and Hollywood lore! We ask Bruce LaBruce all about Death Book, a shocking selection of his performances, actions, film production stills and photography. He tells us about a new retrospective he has in the works. We discuss several of Bruce’s films including his new release “Saint-Narcisse” (2020), and spoiler alert, it’s a twincest re-telling of the Narcissus myth, with very recent showings in Berlin and Munich and we can’t wait to see it. We find out more about the vision and process behind Hustler White (1996), a film co-created with Rick Castro which explores the seedy underbelly of the world of sex for hire and taboo fetish, or what Bruce calls a cut rate version of Sunset Boulevard. We talk about the origin of the queercore movement and the punk zine “J.D.’s” and the queer zine scene. Bruce shares some hot inspirational memories from The Stud and Club Uranus days.

We’re bringing you Deven Green! Deven and Ned Douglas are high-end smartypants funny-people and they have a TV show called “Versus: The Gameshow” - a lighthearted but hilarious show that pits two celebrity contestants against one another in a series of mini-games as they square off on trivia skills, memory, and knowledge of their own social media content. Marc has to find out...what’s going on with Deven Green and Andrew Bradley’s “Mrs. Betty Bowers” and it turns out the Tr*mp years have been kind of intense for ‘America’s Best Christian’. Heklina and Deven theorize about how the pandemic has changed our wants, needs, and focus… and what kind of new revelations the future has in store for us after what has frankly been a really weird time!

We caught up with Chi Chi LaRue for a very special Pride episode. We asked her all about her assent to greatness in the porn industry over the past 38 years, including her first lesbian sex inquiry and her secret process for the difficult work of capturing boners on film long before computers OR Viagra! We spend some time talking about those we have loved and those we have lost, including Joey Stefano and his lasting resonance and the sheer obsession that many still hold for the beauty boy. This episode is a bit of a sweet tribute to our loved ones in the adult film industry and to the future of porn!

Our very special guest this week is Varla Jean Merman, a renown drag performer, a comedienne, and singer who has filled cabarets and concert halls across the world… including the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall! She’s appeared on Ugly Betty, Project Runway, All My Children and the feature length independent films Girls Will Be Girls (2003) and Varla Jean and the Mushroomheads (2011)— but today she is all ours! We talk to Varla Jean Merman about her experiences performing drag from the early 1990’s until now, including her unique incorporation of video projections in her shows as well as her legendary use of props of tremendous scale over the years. Now synonymous with drag in Provincetown, we talk to Varla about doing shows today and what it is going to be like as things are beginning to open up in nightlife. She tells us all about living the sweet life of love!
S2. Ep. 8 Let’s Dig Into That a Little Bit ft. Roddy Bottum
You might know our special guest from Imperial Teen or Faith No More and he’s been making music during quarantine! Roddy Bottum joins us to tell us all about the new project called Man on Man with his partner Joey Holman and we find out all about the making of their self titled album available May 12th, 2021. Roddy explains how he and Joey became “icons of body positivity” with the release of the video for their new song Daddy. There are a ton of super gay songs including one about The Vale of Cashmere in Prospect Park. Along with their album they are launching a project called Chosen Family to create a real world connection with friends and fans and family. Then we talk about Roddy’s time recording and touring with Faith No More and the pandemic-delayed reunion tour. Flloyd joins us! He is a visual, musical, and performance artist living and recording with us from the East Village. He tells us all about coming to New York from Atlanta in the mid-1980’s, where he met and collaborated with a pre-VH1/Supermodel RuPaul. First, Flloyd regales us with an historic tour of his memories from inside the club and party scenes of NYC, including a particular account of “the most glamorous party of all time” captured in the Nelson Sullivan tapes.
