We find out more about the vision and process behind Hustler White (1996), a film co-created with Rick Castro which explores the seedy underbelly of the world of sex for hire and taboo fetish, or what Bruce calls a cut rate version of Sunset Boulevard. We talk about the origin of the queercore movement and the punk zine “J.D.’s” and the queer zine scene. Bruce shares some hot inspirational memories from The Stud and Club Uranus days.

We caught up with Chi Chi LaRue for a very special Pride episode. We asked her all about her assent to greatness in the porn industry over the past 38 years, including her first lesbian sex inquiry and her secret process for the difficult work of capturing boners on film long before computers OR Viagra! We spend some time talking about those we have loved and those we have lost, including Joey Stefano and his lasting resonance and the sheer obsession that many still hold for the beauty boy. This episode is a bit of a sweet tribute to our loved ones in the adult film industry and to the future of porn!

Our very special guest this week is Varla Jean Merman, a renown drag performer, a comedienne, and singer who has filled cabarets and concert halls across the world… including the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall! She’s appeared on Ugly Betty, Project Runway, All My Children and the feature length independent films Girls Will Be Girls (2003) and Varla Jean and the Mushroomheads (2011)— but today she is all ours! We talk to Varla Jean Merman about her experiences performing drag from the early 1990’s until now, including her unique incorporation of video projections in her shows as well as her legendary use of props of tremendous scale over the years. Now synonymous with drag in Provincetown, we talk to Varla about doing shows today and what it is going to be like as things are beginning to open up in nightlife. She tells us all about living the sweet life of love!

You might know our special guest from Imperial Teen or Faith No More and he’s been making music during quarantine! Roddy Bottum joins us to tell us all about the new project called Man on Man with his partner Joey Holman and we find out all about the making of their self titled album available May 12th, 2021. Roddy explains how he and Joey became “icons of body positivity” with the release of the video for their new song Daddy. There are a ton of super gay songs including one about The Vale of Cashmere in Prospect Park. Along with their album they are launching a project called Chosen Family to create a real world connection with friends and fans and family. Then we talk about Roddy’s time recording and touring with Faith No More and the pandemic-delayed reunion tour. We try to make a determination about the term “nu” and ask the important questions such as “is Korn is retro now?” Heklina asks him all about opening up for Guns n’ Roses and the debauchery (and mysticism?) on the Use Your Illusions Tour. Marc insists on finding out more about Roddy writing Sasquatch, The Opera and his love for monsters with hearts of gold.

You probably know him from his work with Madonna on the Blonde Ambition Tour and bringing Vogue to the masses. Luis Xtravaganza is a vogueing pioneer. He has his own podcast called Werque, and a monthly vogue workshop he plans to bring back in Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Luis tells us all about how he first started shaking it to Iris Chacón in front of the TV and later as a performer at the New York ballroom and dance scene where he was a member of the House of Xtravaganza. Luis recounts times spent with Madonna on tour and preparing for the MTV music video awards, and the making of the film Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991), and Madonna’s support of his own work. We find out about ‘Bitchiest Bunch’ drag bunch happening outdoors every Sunday at Luis’ show club, Oscar’s Downtown in Palm Springs. Linda Simpson joins us to tell us all about her book The Drag Explosion, featuring snapshots of the downtown and East Village drag scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s. We ask her about the history of the _My Comrade_ zine and all about exploring the East Village scene of New York in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Linda brings us backstage memories about RuPaul, Tabboo!, Lypsinka, Leigh Bowery, Lady Bunny, Michael Alig, Coco Peru, Mona Foot, the Pyramid Club, the Palladium, and more.

We have the EGOT of awards show writers! It’s Bruce Vilanch! You might know him from the 90’s reboot of Hollywood Squares, or his contributions to Bette Midler’s shows such as “Clams on the Half Shell” or “Divine Madness.” He has been a recurring guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, but we have him all to ourselves this week.  

We talk to him about The Fabulous Allan Carr, and he gives us some insight into working with Allan on the infamous 1989 Oscars. He tells us all about the good stuff that got cut from the show and what inspired some of the cringier moments.
